COMMERCIAL CEILING SOUNDPROOFING
Soundproof Ceilings for Commercial Buildings in DFW
A soundproof ceiling stops noise coming through from the floor above, and stops sound from crossing the top of your walls. DeWalls Acoustic Specialties designs, supplies and installs ceiling soundproofing for offices, clinics, schools, restaurants and mixed-use buildings in McKinney, DFW and across Texas. One team handles the consultation, the design, the product and the install.
Hear footsteps or equipment from upstairs? Hear the next office over the wall? Both can be a ceiling problem.

HOW CEILINGS LEAK SOUND
Two Kinds of Ceiling Noise
Noise from above. Voices, music and TV are airborne noise. They pass through the floor and ceiling like they pass through a wall. Footsteps, rolling carts, chairs and equipment are impact and structure-borne noise. They shake the floor above and the vibration reaches your ceiling. Impact noise is rated by IIC (Impact Insulation Class), and a higher number means less impact noise passes.
Noise over the wall. In many commercial buildings the walls stop at the suspended ceiling, and the space above the tiles is open from room to room. Speech goes up through the tile, across the open space and down into the next room. This is common in offices, clinics and suites.
What a soundproof ceiling is made of: mass on the ceiling, a break in the connection to the structure above, insulation in the cavity and sealed edges. Hangers and isolation mounts keep the ceiling from carrying vibration down from the deck. A standard suspended tile ceiling rarely blocks much on its own. We tell you what yours does and does not do.
Ceiling soundproofing and ceiling panels are different jobs. Soundproofing blocks sound crossing the ceiling. Acoustic ceiling panels, clouds and baffles absorb echo inside the room below. Many spaces need both. See our echo reduction page for the second job.
A ceiling that stops sound from above can still leak across the top of the walls. We check both.
CORE CAPABILITIES
Ceiling Soundproofing We Install

Isolated and Hung Ceilings
Break the connection to the structure so floor impacts and equipment vibration do not reach the room.
Ideal for: rooms under gyms, offices under mechanical rooms, spaces under heavy foot traffic.
Solutions include: Vibration Control Systems (Ceiling Hangers and Isolation Pads).
Noise from above is rated by IIC and noise between rooms by STC. We tell you which one your ceiling needs.

HOW A PROJECT WORKS
Our Process
1
Consultation
Tell us what you hear from above, when, and what is up there.
2
Find the Source
Voices, footsteps, equipment, or sound going over the walls.
3
Check the Ceiling Space
We look above the tile where we can reach it: hangers, ducts, pipes and the top of the walls.
4
Design and Scope
Barrier, isolation, sealing or all three, with the scope and timeline in writing.
5
Installation
Planned around your hours, with the area protected. Noisy or dusty steps are scheduled for times that suit you.
5
Walkthrough
We check the result with you before we leave.
TECHNICAL INSIGHTS
Ceiling Soundproofing FAQs
How do you soundproof a ceiling from noise above?
We add mass, break the connection between the ceiling and the structure above, fill the cavity with insulation and seal the edges and openings. The build depends on whether the noise is voices or footsteps.
Can you soundproof a ceiling without removing it?
Sometimes. Adding a layer can raise the result a little. A big improvement usually needs the ceiling opened so we can add isolation and insulation. We check at the consultation.
Why do I hear footsteps from the floor above?
Footsteps shake the floor, and the vibration travels through the structure into your ceiling. This is impact noise. It needs isolation, not just thicker drywall.
Do acoustic ceiling tiles soundproof a room?
Not much. Standard tiles absorb echo in the room. They do not block much sound crossing the ceiling. Blocking needs mass and sealing.
Why can I hear the next office when the wall goes up to the ceiling?
The wall may stop at the tile. The open space above lets sound pass from room to room. We treat that gap or carry the wall up to the deck above.
Can I soundproof the ceiling and fix the echo at the same time?
Yes. We do both, and we plan them together so one does not undo the other. See our echo reduction page.
